Why would you believe in Jesus?
When we talk about a believer, we almost always mean someone who adheres to a certain religion.
But actually every human being is in a certain sense a believer. Every person believes in something or someone.
Even if you believe that there is nothing but this life.
What do you believe in? And are you sure that what you believe is the truth?
There is someone who not only speaks the truth, but also IS the truth. You can read this in the Bible, in the New Testament, in the gospel of John chapter 14 verse 6:
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. (ESV)
There are many people who say they speak the truth, but not that they are the truth.
You may have noticed that I wrote that someone is there and not was there. Jesus is still alive today. We just don't see Him with our eyes because He went to heaven after He was crucified, laid in a grave and rose from the dead.
The annual Ascension Day refers to the moment He went to heaven (part of the invisible world). So we don't see Jesus with our eyes anymore, but that doesn't mean He doesn't exist.
There was a time when I did not believe in Jesus. In that period of my life I experienced things that could not be explained because you did not see them.
I knew then already very clearly that a dark spiritual world existed. You could not see it, but it was real. I didn't want to have anything to do with it, but I didn't realize that I was in the middle of it.
Only after I gave my life to Jesus and began to believe in Him I saw that I was just as much a part of it. My eyes were opened and also my ears. Suddenly I heard the lyrics of the music I had been listening to all these years and what a darkness was in it. Nobody had told me this, but it was as if Somebody had opened my eyes and ears.
I believe that Jesus exists. And in the past thirty and more years my faith in Him has only grown stronger. I have come to see more and more that Jesus really is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
The Bible says about faith, in the Hebrew Epistle chapter 11 verse 1:
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (ESV)
That conviction is not against my better judgement, but is firmly anchored in my heart. Life with Jesus is not a religion, it is Life. A real relationship with a Person who exists!
